Sweet and savory Monte Cristo bake featuring French bread, ham, turkey, Swiss, topped with powdered sugar and maple syrup.
# Method:
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- In a large bowl, toss the bread cubes with chopped ham and turkey. Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until fully incorporated and smooth.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and meat. Press down gently with a spatula to help the bread absorb the liquid.
- Sprinkle shredded Swiss cheese evenly across the top of the casserole.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and let sit at room temperature for 15 minutes to allow bread to fully soak.
- Bake covered with foil for 30 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until the casserole is set and the top is golden brown.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar and drizzled with maple syrup.
